Breiðafjörður has long been known as Iceland’s larder, as the area has remained one of the nation´s richest food sources throughout the ages. In centuries past, large numbers of our Icelandic ancestors would relocate to Breiðarfjörður to seek out food in order to survive during times of hardship. That culture of harvesting and providing remains, and in Stykkishólmur today you can find a surprisingly large number of high quality restaurants and artisan food producers per capita.

Therefore we feel that if you really want to get to know Stykkishólmur and it’s surrounding area - like the slow travel philosophy encourages you to do - the absolute best way is to sit down in nature with a couple of locals and taste the food delicacies of the area.
