the Geothermal

a Winter Walk

Stykkishólmur has an interesting district heating system that we can call sustainable. On our tour you will learn about geothermal boreholes, injection wells, how the system is kept sustainable, heat exchangers, a small heated stadium, making tea from geothermal water and a lot more.

We will meet at our office in the center of Stykkishólmur and walk through the main street to our destination. On our way we will tell you briefly about the history of our town, the life in Stykkishólmur now and then and whatever else you would like to learn about living in a small village in Iceland. When we arrive at our destination, the heat exchanger in Stykkishólmur, we will have a small picnic and offer you a taste of Stykkishólmur while explaining how the heating system works.

Maximum number of participants: max 16 (ensuring personal experience and ample room for questions). If you are a group of fewer people please look into our special tours and be in touch - we will figure something out.
The Geothermal S l o w l y is a winter walk and will be available from October 1 2017 to April 1 2018.
Duration: 1-1,5 hour.
Meeting point: We meet at our small office space in Hafnargata 4, Stykkishólmur (see map on our contact site).
Nota Bene: As grandma Dóda always used to say: "There is always some kind of a weather". We will try to go for our walks whatever the conditions, and will only cancel our walksif the Icelandic Meterological Office issues warnings against being outside. In that case we will refund you or invite you on another trip when the weather is better. We encourage you to dress accordingly, especially since we will sit down for a small picnic whatever the weather - and it can get a little bit cold, so put on your long johns and a warm parka.
